Help Save Marriage
Saving Marriage is a Work Plan.
Both of you must be prepared to work hard to mend the pieces of your jeopardized relationship & understand that the process will require both time and effort. Having your marriage fall into a deeper mess than it is already is the last thing you want. If need be, you may have to swallow your pride and take the initial step, even if you strongly believe that you aren't the one who is in the wrong. Sacrifices are part of saving a marriage. No one said that saving marriage would be easy.
Help Save Marriage Means “Stop the Complaints”.
Complaining can be just about the same as nagging. You may not know this, but always nagging to your partner is like telling him or her that there's something she or he is doing wrong. It's not possible to make someone change if he doesn't like to. Know that every genuine change comes from within. If there are things about your partner that you want to change, they should understand this for themselves.
You can add more to the hostility by trying to oblige your partner into changing when he's not ready to or forcing him to view something as true when really; it's not how he sees it. The continuous badgering will make your partner feel as though you don't appreciate them for the unique person they are.
You can help promote change in your partner by positively encouraging their efforts whenever efforts are made. You understand that change doesn't come overnight, yet, you're pleased by their action. Positive reinforcement is much stronger than verbal disapproval.
If you are the one who is constantly receiving criticism and complaints, try to take a different road than you usually do. Keep yourself from being defensive and protesting. But instead, try listening to your spouse and try to understand why they are complaining.
You must try and hear what your partner is telling you. You want them to know you are making a sincere and honest effort to see it from their side for a change. Marriage saving is a hard thing to do, especially if you feel that you are the right one. However, it's important to let your spouse know that you're going to do whatever required for your marriage to be saved.
You never know the positive that can result from learning to communicate with your partner. Even if you don't end up seeing “eye-to-eye”, your partner is going to appreciate your honest efforts in trying to understand their wants and needs.
Be patient and support each other. Understand that marriage repair can only happen in the fullness of time. You'll be disturbed some days and other days will be easier…take it one day at a time. Don't mind the insignificant matters and stay away from arguments. Keep the bigger picture, the outcome, always in your mind and heart. Words can be paper thin so prove your intent through your actions.
