Boost Energy With Yohimbe
Yohimbine is a tryptamine alkaloid and is the active chemical constituent of the medicinal herb Pausinystalia yohimbe (formerly Corynanthe yohimbe), also known as yohimbe or yohimbe bark. Yohimbine is a stimulant drug and purportedly has aphrodisiac qualities.
Yohimbe is the name of the bark of a tall evergreen tree in western Africa known as Pausinystalia yohimbe or Corynanthe yohimbe. Yohimbe bark has been used for centuries in some western African nations for sexual enhancement.
Yohimbe bark has been reported to contain up to 6% total alkaloids, 5-15% of which is yohimbine. In other words, a small percentage of a chemical called yohimbine is found in the bark of the yohimbe tree. Currently yohimbe bark extracts are sold in varying alkaloid concentrations, ranging from plain yohimbe bark powder, to yohimbe 4% extract, yohimbe 8%, and up to 20%. The higher the concentration of yohimbe extract, the more potent the yohimbe, and the more likely yohimbe side effects will occur. But then again, the higher percentage extracts are more effective at a lower dosage. Some companies promote yohimbe for weight loss.
Yohimbe bark is an herbal remedy that is claimed to be useful as an aphrodisiac and for treating several health conditions, such as depression, low blood pressure, and various sexual problems. Studies have indicated that the active compound in it probably works for treating impotence and certain other sexual problems. However, more research is necessary to determine if yohimbe is effective for other uses.
Yohimbe extract (Corynanthe yohimbe) is an herb derived from the bark of the yohimbe tree found primarily in the West African nations of Cameroon, Gabon, and Zaire. The major active constituent of the bark is yohimbine. In prescription doses, the active ingredient is yohimbine hydrochloride.
Yohimbe has been used for centuries in African folk medicine to treat fevers, leprosy, coughs, and as a local anesthetic. But its most popular use has been as an aphrodisiac and a mild hallucinogen. It has been widely used in Europe for about 75 years to treat male erectile dysfunction, formerly called impotence. The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved yohimbe as a treatment for impotence in the late 1980s. It is sold as an over-the-counter dietary supplement and as a prescription drug under brand names such as Yocon, Aphrodyne, Erex, Yohimex, Testomar, Yohimbe, and Yovital.
Yohimbe can be found in capsule or tablet form at your local or internet health food store. Look for this wonderful product in name brands to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.
