Are all Migraines the same?

Many people suffer from migraines, which is a specific type of headache that needs specific Migraine Headache Treatment to be relieved. But are all migraines the same?

Migraine symptoms differ from person to person, however the phases are usually very similar. The sufferer will go through a ‘prodomal phase’ before the migraine headache can be felt. At this point you may feel that you are in a different state of mind. You may feel bouts of depression or may be overly ecstatic. It is difficult to determine exactly what is happening in a prodomal phase. It is important to note changes in behavior if you want to understand when another migraine attack is likely to occur. The prodomal phase may last from a few hours to a number of days before the headache takes hold.

The ‘aural phase’ follows. Patients experiencing feelings of minor visual hallucinations can expect to feel a migraine approaching very soon. Colors may be distorted, or your vision may be blurred. You may also experience feelings that parts of your body have ‘fallen asleep’, with sensations across your body that are similar to a feeling of pins and needles.

The headache phase follows the aural phase but migraine headaches tend to be felt in only half of the head whereas, the more common tension headaches affect the whole head. The onset of Migraine Headaches are usually gradual with the apex of pain happening a few hours later. Once again there may be more blurred vision as well as, stuffiness of the nasal cavity and diarrhea.

At the end of the headache phase the postdrome phase starts. During this phase, the migraine sufferer is left feeling tired and possibly irritable, with a lack of concentration. Feelings will differ but migraine headaches will go through each of these phases every time an attack occurs.

A Different Type of Headache

A Sinus Headache can be one of the most frustrating types of headache. They happen in a different way to other headaches and research has shown why they happen. Possibly as the result of an allergic reaction, a tumor, or some type of infection, the sinuses, which are located in the nasal area, become inflamed. This inflammation will lead to an intense feeling of pain in and around the nose, forehead, and cheekbones. If you have a nasal blockage, your doctor may perform an x-ray to determine the extent of the problem. If the diagnosis is positive your doctor will often prescribe anti-histamines and decongestants in order to clear the passageways and relieve the pain.
